Vital: A Virtual Dance Event was a series of dance films created by Era Dance Company collaborators in an effort to remain artistically engaged during the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project is best described with the following statement used in promotion for the work:
In response to a global pandemic, we all are forced to question how we will respond as artists. How do we connect to the world around us when connection may harm us? How does performance translate in the virtual? What work needs to be made today? Numerous questions must be asked, however, even if we do not have the answers we must respond. Regardless of the challenges art must be made. We must do the the work because no matter the human circumstance, there is beauty in the human condition. We dance to share this truth, that is commonly known but not often spoken, the arts and dance are not only necessary but Vital.
Dances films for this project were created by Jay Beardsley, Taylor Bonadies, and Jelani Taylor. The performers in the films included the aforementioned artists and Myron Simon.
